Volunteer
A convention relies on its volunteers. While GMs run their games and staff members deal with issues on the macro scale, it’s the volunteers who get the real work done.
There are two key areas where Northeast Wars needs volunteers: planning and carrying out duties in the months before the convention, and then during the weekend of the convention itself.
Pre-Convention Planning
Staff meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at Quarterstaff Games, at 152 Church St. in Burlington, Vermont, starting at 5:15 PM. These meetings are open to everyone wanting to contribute to or comment on the convention planning process, so feel free to stop by and offer your thoughts or services.
The Weekend of the Convention
During the convention, volunteers are particularly needed to help set up on early Friday afternoon — 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM — and tear down late Sunday afternoon — from 4:00 onward. This includes not only setting up the registration desk and associated areas, but also helping vendors and exhibitors carry their materials in and out of their designated areas.
Other areas of responsibility include helping attendees register for the convention, acting as liaisons with GMs and other guests and general go-fer duties.
In return for their time and energy, volunteers receive a discount on their badge at the same rate as GMs. Four hours of volunteering gets a weekend badge for $30. Eight hours of volunteering gets a weekend badge for $15. What’s more, there’s always the chance of hobnobbing with special guests of honor or picking up some convention swag. Also, for those who help break the convention down Sunday afternoon, there will be a pizza party to celebrate a convention well done.
