Twitter Nation

Krug

This weekend at Northeast Wars, if you have the means, join our Twitteralong. Twitter is a microblogging service where users post messages of 140 characters or less. In the case of events like Northeast Wars, twittering is a great way to organize spontaneous gatherings, inform people of something cool or awesome happening right then and there and sharing your experiences with other people, as well as keep up with things if you couldn’t make it this year. To learn more about Twitter, check out Scott Hanselman’s article How to Twitter. And as long as you’re making account, why not follow the official Northeast Wars Twitter feed?

The Essex has wifi access for guests and a public internet terminal in the lobby, so you can access Twitter via the web as well as via a mobile device.

If you do join in the Twitteralong, add the hashtag — explained in Scott Hanselman’s handy guide, above — #newars to the end of your tweets. That way, other people using Twitter can easily follow the action at the convention and you can follow what they’re saying. For example, clicking here, you can see that the tag’s already in use.

Go forth, gamers! Go forth and roll those dice! And then twitter about it!

One Convention Book to Guide Them All

Krug

Even now, GMs and players are going to sleep with visions of six-siders rolling through their heads. Northeast Wars IX is only a few scant days away. If you’re not sure what you want to play, or aren’t sure what you signed up to play — or GM! — the last days before a convention can be nerve-wracking.

In order to reduce the overall level of tension in the world, we bring you the Northeast Wars IX Con Guide. With cover art by special guest Melissa Benson, this text guides you not only to the many fine gaming options available during the weekend, but also offers convention survival tips, suggestions for dining in and around the Essex resort and a few other special treats.

So download it. Print it out. Carry it around rolled up in your back pocket. Go ahead, we won’t mind.

Preregistration Closed

Krug

As of now, preregistration for Northeast Wars IX has closed. If you missed the deadline, don’t despair. You can still get in on the gaming action at Northeast Wars. Just visit the con registration desk when you arrive at the inn and our friendly staff will be happy to set you up with a badge for the weekend or just that day in particular. A weekend badge for a walk-in conventioneer is $50, while Friday, Saturday, and Sunday-only badges are $10, $25 and $10, respectively.

The up-shot of all this is the convention is only four days away. Woo-hoo! See you at the inn Friday evening! If you’re not already planning to arrive early for the greet and game in the tavern, think about it. What better appetizer for a solid weekend of gaming than pub fare and even more gaming?

Artist in the House: Melissa Benson

Krug

Northeast Wars is pleased to welcome back Melissa Benson, a longtime friend of the convention and well-known fantasy artist. Melissa originally attended Northeast Wars in the 1990s when the mischief in the mountains was just getting underway.

Ms. Benson has a long history with the gaming hobby, going all the way back to 1993, when a little company calling itself Wizards of the Coast started collecting art for a card game by the name of Magic: The Gathering. The Shivan Dragon, pictured right, is an iconic example of her work. She has since gone on to illustrate cards for many more collectible card games, including Shadowfist, 7th Sea and Jyhad, as well as other gaming-related pieces, such as commissioned character portraits.

Many samples of her work are available for viewing on her website, as well as the opportunity to purchase prints, gift items displaying her art or even commission her for an original piece.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming Melissa back to Burlington for another Northeast Wars!

Imperial Troops Assigned to Northeast Wars Installation

Krug

Troops from the New England garrison of the steadfast 501st Legion, maintainers of the Empire’s peace on Earth, will deploy the weekend of April 3rd through the 5th to oversee the execution of Northeast Wars, a recreational activity sanctioned by local representatives of the Empire.

When not pursuing their duties of tracking down traitorous rebels and contraband droids, members of the 501st will be available for photo opportunities with loyal citizenry.

Last year, TK-3220 performed admirably in keeping the peace at Northeast Wars VIII. We look forward to welcoming him and his comrades in arms back this April. His mission report can be read here, with accompanying photographic records.

Trollish Mating Calls

Krug

Ah, spring. When a young troll like Krug’s fancy lightly turns to finding a mate and dragging her home. In the northeast corner of the United States, it’s also the time that the snow begins to melt and the land’s denizens creep, blinking in the light of the sun, from their homes. What better way to celebrate the turn of the seasons by getting together for a weekend of gaming?

By popular demand, Northeast Wars returns for a ninth round in April of 2009. Watch this space for the latest on events, special guests, registration deals and more.
